"ONE MAN DIED FOR ALL"

Date

November 23rd, 2016

Summary

A graceful skyscraper twinkles in the evening light of Coruscant.

Guests

Tony Consiglio

Notes

Film

  • Wipe to Coruscant apartment complex.
  • First appearance of Hayden Christensen's Anakin.
  • First appearance of "Obi-Jesus".
  • Jar Jar call's Obi-Wan "Obi", and refers to the Jedi as his "palos"

Podcast

  • Lack of "applause" shots in AOTC as opposed to in the Original Trilogy.
  • This scene in the elevator was added much later, after the first cut of the film was already complete. It was supposed to establish Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship.
    • The scene is awkward and forced, which is odd because Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor would had been acting together for the whole movie - shouldn't they have developed a rapport by now?
  • Jedi fashion.
Rigorous casting process for the Role of Anakin

Rigorous casting process.png

  • Christensen won out because he had an Inner Darkness about him.
  • Who were some of these other 1499 actors that didn't make the cut? Will Disney be releasing any of this footage? Probably for purchase.
  • Mentioned: You'll be dead!, Too old.
  • Hayden Christensen's acting and other roles.
    • Referenced: Bailey Quarters from the show "WKRP in Cincinnati".

Meta Minute

  • 27:40 podcast episode length.
  • Anakin was born 41 years BBY, and the events of this movie take place in 22 BBY, so he is 19 years old.
  • On the date this episode first aired, the 20th anniversary of Attack of the Clones (which was first released May 16th, 2002) was precisely 2000 days in the future (just under 5½ years).
  • Christensen was never in a movie directed by Woody Allen, but he was in "Love and Betrayal: The Mia Farrow Story" a miniseries about Mia Farrow's relationship with Woody Allen.
  • Teaser for tomorrow: More "Jar Jar talk" talk.

Samuel L. Jackson

  • Samuel L. Jackson was 67 when this episode aired. By contrast, Michael Caine was 83.
Tony tells the story of how he met Samuel L. Jackson:
He worked in a sports store stringing tennis rackets.
The machine was right in the front window where he was on display like a store mannequin.
In walks Sam Jackson, dressed as Shaft (which was filming a few doors down) and he bought a tennis racket and some golf balls.
Tony told him that he loved him in Star Wars because he acted with Yoda and in a movie where he was stabbed to death.
  • There have been two movies named '21' made during Sam Jackson's lifetime, but he was in neither of them. The movie Tony is trying to remember is One Eight Seven (1997) where he plays Trevor Garfield, a high school teacher at a troubled school. He survives being shanked, but is later killed in a game of Russian roulette.
    • Samuel L. Jackson has acted in 144 films since 1972, and has averaged nearly 4 per year during that time. In his most productive years (1990 and 1996) he was in 7 films.
  • According to Sam Jackson (with the ambivalence if not support of George Lucas), his character Mace Windu survived the Prequels[1]. This would play into the "Mace Windu is Snoke theory" that some people have been kicking around. But since George is no longer involved with Star Wars, is this canon?

Quotes

  • Pete: You know what? He [Hayden Christensen] is a handsome young man. Tony: He's not... he's not ugly.
  • Tony: He was in a film called 90 Minutes in Heaven. I used to play that in high school <rim shot>.
  • Alex: I remember that movie [Jumper] existed too!
  • Pete: (as Tony, to Samuel L. Jackson) I love that movie where you got stabbed to death
  • Pete: (still as Tony) You know that these balls don't go with this racket?
  • Alex: My money's on Fisto. Pete: Always bet on Fisto.
  • Alex: I look forward to filling up notebook after notebook after notebook...
