I wanted to thank you for making us admins. I've been having a lot of fun with this project--Kabutton (talk) 09:03, 22 April 2016 (PDT)

Thank YOU for picking it up and running with it. It's something I always wished we could devote more time to, but you guys are doing a better job than we ever could.

Create new episodes automatically

Hey Pete, I'm wondering if we can get some way to automatically create the pages for new episodes. It feels like it should be possible, since all the information to create the page stub is present in the RSS feed. Is this something you've investigated before? Spookypeanut (talk) 12:13, 22 April 2016 (PDT)

Nope, I hadn't thought of that. I'm not sure what it would involve.

I'm not sure either, it just feels like it ought to be possible. I imagine if it is, it would involve a WordPress plugin which you probably don't want to risk on the main site. I'll do some research. Spookypeanut (talk) 12:55, 22 April 2016 (PDT)

Please fact check!

Please fact check / update the wiki page about you (Pete the Retailer), I don't want to misrepresent you! Spookypeanut (talk) 15:37, 23 April 2016 (PDT)

Looks good. I'm sure I'll add things from time to time. The only change I made was the spelling of my cat's name.

List of Sponsors

I'm not sure which sponsors, of the many mentioned in the podcast, are still valid. I'll put them in on the Support the Show page if I can get a list. Thanks!--Kabutton (talk) 14:44, 31 May 2016 (PDT)

I think pretty much every sponsor/affiliate is still active for now. The important ones for us (besides Patreon and Merch) are Amazon and Audible.

Great, thank you!--Kabutton (talk) 09:00, 2 June 2016 (PDT)

Embed iframe widget (for guest data)

Pete! I was trying to embed some stats (basically, I can make a "baseball card" for any guest using an HTML request sent to my google data table) for the guests. All I would need is an iframe embed (which, you may know, is a pretty basic HTML element - it has its own button in Dreamweaver, even). Much to my surprise (and mild dismay), it is not not a basic feature of the MediaWiki interface. If I can find a very plain, basic and trustable widget, could you look into maybe installing it? I will do my due diligence. The query results in a basic striped HTML table, but it can style to whatever it needs to be. For example - here is a data query that returns all of the Tony Consiglio episodes in order*:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/1I9t4EVRQEQWK70w9viCAA18RbmtTAlmiblk2c7exPqY/gviz/tq?tqx=out:html&tq=select+K,E,G,J+where+F+contains+%27Tony%20Consiglio%27&gid=216482817&pref=2&pli=1
Anyway, I think this might be a cool addition to the guest pages. I am making it my summer project (sort of) to complete them with data.

  • it is very handy, so far, that ANH, ESB, ROTJ and TPM are all in alphabetical order. Yet another way Attack of the Clones will screw us over.--Cddig21 (talk) 08:43, 14 June 2016 (PDT)

Sure, let me know what you can find and I'll install it.

(Also, let me know if I'm not doing this communication thing correctly!)

Sweet, thanks! Most of the stats stuff is good to publish after the end of each season, but some rolling things might be cool to keep live. I am feeling like more people will take part in the voting stuff once the next season starts. Plus, once they figure out that it's truly anonymous, I am hoping they'll all go crazy.

So I will check in to the widgets and let you know what I find. As for the communication thing, Khai and Henry are the masters. I'm just making this up as I go along. --Cddig21 (talk) 09:41, 17 June 2016 (PDT)

Confirm new users

Do you know if there's any way Admins can confirm new users? Or is it only Bureaucrats that can do that? A SWMLS member posted that he's still waiting to have his account confirmed. The funny thing is, I remember being sent an email when I registered with a link to confirm my account. That was back in April, maybe things are different now.--Kabutton (talk) 12:15, 25 August 2016 (PDT)

I don't think I've made any changes since then. Do we know his username? -PTR

Delete spam users

We've been able to block spam accounts no problem, but as far as I can tell, the only way to actually delete the spambot users is with the UserMerge extension. Do you have this installed?
I believe the default permission level to use this extension is restricted to "bureaucrat". If you would like me or Henry to delete some of these spam accounts, you'll need to modify the permissions for us admins. --Kabutton (talk) 05:14, 16 October 2016 (PDT)

I just tried, and it turns out we need to upgrade. Currently we're at MediaWIki 1.22.6, and it looks like the earliest version UserMerge works with is 1.23 I'm not 100% sure I know how to upgrade, so I'll keep trying to figure it out. -PTR
