Yay, new blood! Thanks for joining in :-) Good work on that episode page. I keep meaning to go back through old episodes of Star Wars and Empire, but I'm currently concentrating on the weekend edition. Maybe I'll find some Empire episodes to do next! Spookypeanut (talk) 03:23, 11 July 2016 (PDT)
Hi. Sorry for not responding sooner. No worries and thanks for your hard work as well; the site is looking great. Keep doing what you're doing and I'll just keep grinding away on the episodes in order. There's no rush - we'll get there. Also, let me know if you have any feedback or if I'm doing anything wrong - all comments will be greatly appreciated. Dl1846 06:44, 18 July 2016 (PDT)
No problem 🙂 Your pages look fab, you're being much more thorough than i ever am! There's no rush, except that p&a are constantly doing more episodes faster than we can get them on the wiki! But I've realised recently that I must learn to care less about that: much better to enjoy the podcast! Spookypeanut (talk) 12:18, 18 July 2016 (PDT)
Things to do:
- Restart and clean-up Star Wars articles (eg standardise the format, date, quote counts etc).
- Hyperlinks (I keep forgetting these - eg Treadwell).
- Find out the first time Alex apologised to Pete for mentioning the prequels. Highlight this in the relevant article and 'running jokes'. --Dl1846
- I feel like this was super early into the show. Maybe minute 2 or something like that? --Kabutton (talk) 06:18, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
- Yep - it was the very first minute, although it wasn't specifically about the prequels. Alex gave a general apology for talking about things that were outside Pete's purist view that 'Star Wars' is really just the original movie. Its very interesting to listen to how that apology has changed and morphed over time in the podcast.--Dl1846 (talk) 06:25, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
- Completely agree. I still remember the surprise at hearing Pete say that he liked the Naboo Movie. I know he wasn't trying to argue that it was good, but he realized that it was part of 'his Star Wars,' and that means something. And then Alex brought up how we've all had to apologize to him about the prequels for all these years. Quite interesting.--Kabutton (talk) 06:34, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
Quotes
I like the idea of better standardizing formats, especially for quotes - we can't seem to nail it down. We've got the templates on the Etiquette and Protocol page, but they don't yet say how to format the quotes. I like the way that you've been doing it (bolding the names and putting them ahead of the quote), although I'm daunted by the prospect of hunting down the timestamps for the each of the existing quotes. The good news is that there are still only a few of us working on this thing, so we should be able to come to an agreement between us. I'm glad you're thinking about hyperlinks (I like to make this thing as internally connected as possible, better's the chance that readers will discover a page they didn't know they wanted)--Kabutton (talk) 09:53, 19 August 2016 (PDT)
I've updated the pages I've worked on to get back to the templates (I got away from them by accident). I've removed the timestamps from the quotes as I totally agree with your point. Going forward, I'll check any format changes / ideas with you before making them (sorry about that!). I'll also factor hyperlinks in going forward - I keep overlooking them and completely agree with making this thing internally connected. Thanks for the ongoing guidance. --Dl1846
I too like the format of quotes you've been using, so I added an example to the template (in a hidden comment) Spookypeanut (talk) 03:53, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
But I'd still like to have them bulleted: is that ok with everyone? (I've put it in the templates) Spookypeanut (talk) 03:56, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
That is definitely ok with me. Bullets are very easy to manage and read; good pick up. Thanks. --Dl1846 (talk) 04:02, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
Looks great. I'm glad to get that nailed down. Thanks guys! --Kabutton (talk) 04:34, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
Pop culture references
Here's my thought process when it comes to Pop culture referenced on the show: my goal is to include (and elaborate on) references that are not fully explained, or are not super well known so that people listening to the show can use the corresponding wiki article as a companion instead of having to stop and hunt down the reference themselves. I sometimes feel like the hosts and guests speak only in references, and it can be difficult to try and document them all, so I've been focusing on writing up the ones that either I did not immediately get, and/or those I think many others might not get.
Alternatively, if you want to remember which episode it was that they dropped a specific reference, you should be able to locate the episode in the archive by searching for that reference.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on all that. --Kabutton (talk) 11:51, 22 August 2016 (PDT)
Hi. I totally agree with everything you've said and the references are crucial to everyone's enjoyment of the podcast in my view. Given this, I think the approach you've outlined is spot-on and we should proceed on that basis. Keep up the great work. --Dl1846 (talk) 03:44, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
Episode page formatting
Oh, I just realised that I've been doing these references incorrectly and not in line with the template. I'll clean this up over the coming days - sorry guys, its taken me a while to get my head around the templated approach but I'm getting there! Thanks.--Dl1846 (talk) 06:59, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
Not to worry. I wanted to standardize the format for references but didn't have a clear idea what that should look like. The format in the template is just one option, but I tried to base it on how we'd been doing it previously, more or less. If you come up with something you like better, that's cool so long as we adjust the template/other pages to match.--Kabutton (talk) 07:11, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
I'm very happy with the format in the template and how you'd been doing it previously. It was completely a misunderstanding on my part so I'll proceed as per the template from here.
In regards to the template, I don't quite understand how the 'h4 fields' section under Podcast is supposed to display and I can't find any ready examples of that anywhere. Can you please provide some guidance on that aspect when / if you get a chance? Thank-you.--Dl1846 (talk) 07:20, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
I used the code <noinclude></noinclude>
so that it would display when people look at the template, but won't be included in the new episode pages when you use the template to auto-populate them, so as to give people an idea of what some of the optional fields might be. Hope that makes sense.--Kabutton (talk) 07:32, 23 August 2016 (PDT)
