Notes

Film

  • Starts with Obi-Wan hanging from the drone, and ends with him falling from said drone.
  • SEBOCA!! (the movie star) and his date, Bogg Tyrell (no relation).
  • Macrobinocular shot (Zam POV).
  • Zam Wesell's theme (cool, heavy on drums).

Podcast

  • Sound design, editing, etc. borrow a lot from the podrace.
  • Cut content from the AOTC scrapbook establishes that Bogg is not related to Ratts.
    • It's a missed opportunity not having these two related in some way to the famous podracers.
  • Referenced: Wioslea.
  • Seboca's hair.
  • Referenced: "Catch a Falling Star" by Perry Como.
  • Open vs. closed speeder cockpits.
  • Referenced: The Fifth Element and Bladerunner
  • Coruscant at night is cool. Darkness hides flaws.
  • Zam's long gun.
    • Is it a projectile weapon?
  • The scene is structured such that there is no peril.
    • Obi-Wan falls and immediately is in a perfect parachute position.
    • This is an everyday occurrence for him.
    • Plus, it's a prequel - we know he's going to be fine.
    • Cut dialog would build the tension even a tiny bit.
    • We want to see our characters on an extraordinary day, not something they deal with all the time.
  • Mentioned: John Williams.
  • Does Obi-Wan have a backup plan, or does he know Anakin will rescue him in time?
  • Compare and contrast with action scenes in 007 James Bond and Mission Impossible.
  • More on the question of why Jango delegates the assassination to Zam.
  • Zam's shapeshifting is underused.
  • Why not Aurra Sing? Maybe that was Zam back in TPM.

Meta Minute

  • 34:52 podcast episode length.
  • This is the first in a week of Movies by Minutes All-Stars.
  • John is one of the hosts of Alien Minute, which wrapped on November 30th, 2016. At the time this episode aired, John was almost certain they'd be continuing on to Aliens Minute.
  • John has been mentioned before on the show, in an ad for his graphic novel Dodd Skalle Investigations Vol. 1: The Simian Case
  • The singer/actress that Alex can't remember is Angelyne.
  • F-canon (fan canon) also known as "fanon" is of course not actual canon. Cut content from a scrapbook would count as N-canon, so non-canonical[1].
  • Zam's gun is a KiSteer 1284 projectile rifle. It's a slugthrower, which is Star Wars talk for firearm.

Quotes

  • Alex: Attack of the Drones.
  • Alex: Ooh you don't want to Google wrong.
