Notes

Film

  • Starts with Watto informing Qui-Gon that his Republic Credits are no good, and ends with the gang leaving Watto's shop.
    • A lot of haggling in this minute.
  • Matt's favorite line "Mind tricks don'ta work on me. Only money."

Podcast

  • Watto is a flying racist stereotype, but if you put that aside he's a pretty good character and is funny in this scene.
  • Does Watto know Qui-Gon IS a Jedi, or does he think he's just trying to act like one?
    • There are thousands of Jedi across the galaxy; how rare would it be to see one on a backwater like Tatooine?
  • Qui-Gon's embarrassed look when he gets busted.
  • Why doesn't Watto take Republic credits? They're probably worth more here on Tatooine.
  • Everybody in this scene is at their worst: Jar Jar is going overboard on the physical "comedy", and Anakin is telling Padmé his unsolicited life story.
    • When Qui-Gon and Watto come back in, she was probably like Save me. Save me!
    • Jar Jar's crashing sounds off-screen.
  • Alex admits that if he had been a ten-year-old when this movie came out, he would want to have played as Jar Jar.
  • The decision to separate Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan is detrimental to developing their on-screen relationship.
    • All we know is that Qui-Gon thinks he's young and impulsive, which is pretty standard for Master-Padawan relationships.
      • The exception is Anakin and Ahsoka in Clone Wars.

Meta Minute

  • 21:20 podcast episode length.
  • Matt had a huge crush on Natalie Portman.
    • Alex isn't sold on her acting chops.
    • Natalie Portman filmography.
  • According to Wookieepedia, Wupiupis (which are the Hutt currency, we'll hear more about them later) are worth 0.625 Republic Dataries.
  • In an earlier episode, Alex revealed that he remembered playing "Star Wars" and choosing to be C-3PO.
  • Ewan McGregor made lightsaber noises with his mouth while filming the lightsaber scenes[1].

Quotes

  • Alex: (as Qui-Gon) <sheepishly> Uhh, well I uh... I wasn't really trying to do it.
