Maybe this is why Pete is such a big Billy Joel fan.

Slowly, hesitantly, Luke removes the mask from his father's face. There beneath the scars is an elderly man.

Songe Riddle and Rachael Noel Fox

  • The two-hour mark!
  • Starts with Luke struggling to get Darth Vader onto a ramp of some sort, and ends with Vader looking on Luke with his own eyes, just for once.
  • Machine gun sounds?

  • Why does Vader pick this moment to have Luke take his helmet off?
  • Luke has no trouble getting the mask off.
  • Luke immediately jumps to the conclusion that Vader will die if he takes the mask off. Maybe he knows something we don't.
  • Changes to the reveal in the Special Editions, including improving continuity with the Prequels. Referenced: "Arrested Development".
  • Controversy over the reveal.
    • What did you expect it to be like?
  • Songe delivers an important monolog.
Everyone has something they expect and want to see from media, but if everyone's opinions were always taken into account, nothing would ever get made. Now fans have more of a voice (due to the internet?) in the creative process, but that led them to think that art was in some way a democratic process; it's not. If one person has an opinion about how an artist should have made their art, it shouldn't matter. If many many people all share the same opinion, maybe it's something to consider, but if everyone has their own different opinion, who cares?
People expected Darth Vader to be imposing under his mask and were disappointed when their expectations weren't met, but who cares what you want? That is a different movie. Lucas didn't want him to be a monster. Instead we get a portrait of a man who is very weak. It shows the depth of the victory that Luke wins in the end because he didn't take the easy path the way his father did.
  • Luke goes against the Jedi code forbidding attachment, and that family connection is precisely what saves the day in the end.
  • Parallel between yin & yang and Star Wars. Referenced: Lando's cape.
  • What if Vader had survived? It would have been awkward. Referenced: Star Wars Infinities, Gandalf the White, Jesus Christ Superstar.
  • Force ghost swimming.
  • Vader's own eyes.

  • Songe completes his "from..." gags for the week.
  • The YouTube Channel "Because Science" has a video on why Darth Vader breathes like that.
  • The "Yin and Yang" symbol is more properly known as a taijitu.
  • Vader's white suit was mentioned before during minute 84.
  • Songe and Rachael will be back soon for SWM:We #11.

  • Pete:...analyze, scrutinize, and "just for once let me look on you with my own eyes"...
  • Alex: Classic narcissistic Anakin: {whining} Now! I want to show you my face nowww!
  • Pete: It does kind of make sense if he's an [...] ex-lava man.
  • Songe: How ya doin', you old failure?
  • Pete: I just did a little maneuver at the battle of "My Chair".
